A lot of modern lightweight design structures are made from aluminum extrusion profiles. Within an extrusion profile there are usually different wall thicknesses thus also different shell properties, but no welds. By defining so called profile sets (prefix PROF) in LIMIT, the software will identify welds only where they really occur. The same procedure can be used for steel profiles which commonly do not use different wall thicknesses but share “feature edges”.
