Description
DangVan defines a method rather than a code or guideline. The DangVan criterion is used for fatigue analysis of structures under cyclic multiaxial stress states. The procedure is valid for high cycle fatigue (HCF), i.e., for a minimum of 10^6 load cycles. Basically the maximum shear stress amplitude and the corresponding hydrostatic stress state of a sequence of loading conditions is taken into account. This procedure can deal with very high hydrostatic stress levels for which it gives more realistic results than the FKM guideline.
LIMIT® Implementation
LIMIT® contains a version of the DangVan criteria that uses the maximum Tresca shear stress as the shear stress amplitude rather than the maximum shear stress amplitude in an arbitrary 3D cutting plane. DangVan criteria was developed to access infinite life fatigue for non-proportional loading.
Fields of Application
- rolling contact in roller bearings
- rolling contact fatigue of train wheels
