An important task of LIMIT® is the quick assessment of structures with large numbers of welds. After identifying welds based on shell properties or LIMIT® Part sets the next step within the process is the topology filtering. Based on the geometry of the Finite Element model LIMIT® will categorize all welds into seven different types.
The basic types are, of course, T-joint and butt-weld. However, more complex welding types can be identified as well. The last-mentioned type “extrusion” requires the definition of element sets representing extrusion profiles prior to the search for welds. If a weld set includes different topologies, it will be split.
