An important task of LIMIT is the quick assessment of structures with large numbers of welds. After identifying welds based on shell properties or LIMIT Part sets the next step within the process is the topology filtering. Based on the geometry of the Finite Element model LIMIT will categorize all welds into seven different types.
The basic types are, of course, T-joint and buttweld. However, more complex welding types can be identified as well. The last-mentioned type “extrusion” requires the definition of element sets representing extrusion profiles prior to the search for welds. If a weld set includes different topologies, it will be split.
